This morning, I managed to squeeze in a little bit of time for a garden harvest.
My oregano has been in flower for a few days and I felt it was "go-time". The small purple-ish, pink flowers were looking abundant and beautiful. It's the first year that I've felt that the oregano has put out such a generous amount. I think it's because my chives have all but disappeared. Has this happened to you? Of course, I can google or ask AI, but it does feel rather strange to have an entire patch of chives essentially go missing from the garden.
I also snipped a bouquet of sage which is very much abundant right now. I didn't get to clip a whole lot because I had to head out of town for an appointment, so I will be back in the next few days to do a proper harvest.
My calendula is starting to flower. I enjoy this time of year because the calendula pops up continuously as you harvest it. I'm drying some out for bath bombs, because my supply has completely run out!
I gathered a colourful array of cherry tomatoes, but mostly the yellow cherries are ready. This year I brought my son with me to the garden centre and I let him pick out the tomatoes. He enjoyed this task very much, but it has given me a plethora of yellow cherry tomatoes which I've never had before. That mother-son garden trip was so joyful, I could hardly be upset about having too much of a delicious tomato!
The garden is more chaotic this year because I don't think all of the seeds I planted have took. But one exciting thing is that the trellis arch that I bought and installed last year has pole beans growing up it! Finally! My dream is for the arch to look beautifully abundant and full of creeping vine vegetable goodness, but it usually takes me a few years to master my garden ideas.
Speaking of garden things... next week I will be dropping off a batch of Gardener Soap to Loose Goose - a coffee shop in Guelph! It's made with oatmeal, coffee and shea butter.
